Identity Theft Insurance

Still a relatively new product and marketed as protection against the fraud of Identity Theft, it often won’t replace stolen money or cover improper bills. You may have seen some of the television ads which focus on helping to “re-establish credit,” this is different than covering an actual loss.

Some policies are really “low value” because they only cover things like long-distance charges, registered mail, notarizing documents, or loan application fees that occur in fixing the “theft.” Or the policy may cover hard-to-prove expenses like having to take time off from work to deal with the issue of Identity Theft.

Check your Homeowners Insurance policy as it may already include some Identity Theft provisions.
